History of Aabhar Mahila Samiti
The organization- The origin of Abhar Mahila Samiti happened during the year 2000. It was established by Mrs.Asha Devi Khare at Chhatarpur, Madhya Pradesh. Mrs.Khare was a homely lady who had a social vision as a rural woman. The social condition of her village Bilhari was pathetic. The village was of full of social evils such as exploitation of women, gambling, alcoholism, illiteracy etc. These situations lead her to work for the social development. She began to unite the rural women at her own level and started working at the village level. Till the year 2003, the thinking of the people got changed and Mrs.Asha Devi and her youth companions took the decision to form a society, get it registered and work for the people to have them their rights. Thus on 18th July 2003 a women’s institution took birth and it was named as ABHAR MAHILA SAMITI! The society has 7 women in its governing body.
The work started by taking the survival needs and aspirations of the people into account. The organization decided that it would not start work with any ambitious program. Gradually, the work manifested itself into various concrete programs. Instead of launching it with an ambitious program AMS has evolved into a many faceted organization by gradually solving the many problems that have arisen out of local situations. Two decisions were made about the target and mode of work -
i. All work would be done only with the weaker sections of society.
ii. A participatory approach would be adopted for all program formulation and implementation.
Consequently the programs of the organization have been substantive learning opportunities for both the staff and the participant communities for the development of interactive appropriate solutions to local problems. AMS started its work with the coordination District Health Department, Chhatarpur, Jan Adhikar Manch Gwalior, Jila Panchayat Chhatarpur, PHE Department Chhatarpur and M.P. Voluntary Health Association.
AMS presently working in the fields of health, education, empowerment of women, child rights, livelihood, disability, Panchayati raj system, formation of SHGs, training and monitoring along with government and non- governmental organization and public awareness campaign in 4 blocks of district Chhatarpur viz. Chhatarpur, Buxwaha, Rajnagar and Bada Malehra.
